In season 3 Ross and Rachel were madly in love with each other. But later, Rachel became sick of being a waitress, so she quit and applied for jobs in the fashion industry. She was employed by Bloomingdale's. Ross, however, felt their relationship was threatened by Rachel's new boss Mark, who was quite good-looking. He worried that Mark was spending too much time with her. They got into a big fight, which didn't stop even after Mark's departure. Their fight got to the point where Rachel announced they were on a break. The morning after she thought better of it, and tried to fix her relationship with Ross. That didn't happen because Ross slept with another woman. Another big fight occurred, and at the end it was official: they were over. At the end of season 3 Ross was set up by Phoebe with Bonnie, a beautiful girl who used to be bald. Rachel was upset of that, but she was convinced by Phoebe that she wanted Ross to be happy, so she kept her feelings to herself. Meanwhile, Monica was trying her luck at Wall Street. She got quite successful. But in the end she lost all of her money, and reluctantly took a job as a cook at a diner. She was reluctant because she had to wear blond wig and fake boobs to work, and sing "YMCA" at the counter. But that's where she met her next boyfriend: Pete Becker. He was a millionaire, and owned a hi-tech business. He was so rich that he once tipped Monica $10,000. He also bought a restaurant for Monica. On their first date, he took her to Rome, which according to Chandler was a "third or fourth date kinda thing." (I think it's more like a 10th anniversary kinda thing.) All things went well, until he announced to her he was gonna take part in the "Ultimate Fighting Championship." He was badly beaten by his opponent, and he needed cast for his entire body. In spite of all that, he refused to give up. They broke up. Phoebe's half-brother Frank Jr. told her that he was gonna marry his home-ec teacher Alice who was 26 years older than him. At first she couldn't accept it, but eventually she did. At the end of season 3, she found out that her mom's friend Phoebe (played by Teri Garr) was living at the beach, so she decided to go visit her to see if she had any infomation about her dad.
